The AKSNA Board of Directors and committees are comprised of volunteer school nutrition professionals committed to advance AKSNA’s mission of advancing the quality of child nutrition programs in Alaska through education, advocacy, and engagement.
Elected Officers
Elected officers include the President, President-elect, Secretary, and Treasurer. The officials support AKSNA’s mission and vision by executing key roles and responsibilities to lead and manage the association.
To be eligible for an elected position, a member must have membership in good standing and demonstrated leadership abilities through participation in an annual State conference or serving on the Executive Board.
President
The president is the chief office of the association, chairs and sets the agenda for the Executive Board. The president is responsible for the implementation of the State Plan of Action which is consistent with the National Plan of Action.
Term: One year
Time commitment: Approximately 8-10 hours per month

President-elect
The President-elect facilitates and presides over the state’s annual conference, prepares the State’s Plan of Action consistent with the National Plan of Action, and succeeds the President upon conclusion of their term or in the event of an untimely removal from office.
Term: One year (plus subsequent year as President)
Time commitment: Approximately 4-5 hours per month
Attends the annual State Conference, SNA’s Annual National Conference, SNA Leadership Conference
Secretary
The Secretary is responsible for recording and maintaining minutes of the Annual Business Meeting, Executive Board meetings, and sending notices and board packets to the Executive Board.
Time commitment: Approximately 2 hours per month

Treasurer
The Treasurer supervises the Associations financial instruments, provides financial reporting including Statements of Income, Financial Position, and Cashflow to the Executive Board and presents the Association’s financial report at the Annual Business Meeting.
Time commitment: Approximately 8-10 hours per month

Standing Committees
Bylaws Committee
The Bylaws Committee supports AKSNA’s mission by reviewing and modernizing AKSNA’s governing rules.271
The committee reviews AKSNA’s current governing rules to ensure the Association complies with laws, regulations, and SNA rules and recommends modifications to the governing rules as needed.
The Bylaws Committee is chaired by the Past President
Time commitment: The committee meets on an as needed basis
Nominating Committee
The Nominating Committee supports AKSNA’s mission and vision by identifying and recruiting potential members for leadership positions.
The committee manages state nominations and the election process for the Executive Board.

Strategic Committees
Member Services Committee
The Member Services Committee supports AKSNA’s mission by supporting membership growth and retention.
The committee provides input and suggestions regarding AKSNA membership. The Committee reviews, assesses, recommends, and implements member services for AKSNA membership which promote and retain membership.
The Member Services Committee Chair is appointed by the President and attends the annual State Conference.
Time commitment: Approximately 1-3 hours per month
Public Policy & Legislation Committee
The Public Policy & Legislation Committee (PP&L) supports AKSNA’s mission and vision by recommending and advocating Child Nutrition program policy positions for the Association.
The committee responds to state and Federal regulatory and legislative initiatives, and informs AKSNA members about policy issues and advocacy opportunities.
Attends the annual State Conference, attends SNA Legislative Action Conference
The PP&L Committee Chair is appointed by the President.
Time commitment: Approximately 4-5 hours per month, PP&L members may be asked to attend SNA Legislative Action Conference (LAC), usually held in early March each year in Washington, D.C
Conference Committee
The Conference Committee supports AKSNA’s mission and vision by facilitating the Annual Conference, which provides members an opportunity for professional development, networking, and advocacy.
The committee plans, organizes, and executes all facets of AKSNA’s Annual Conference. This includes scheduling and planning guest speakers and topics of interest to members and attendees, reserving and planning the venue space for the conference, vendor expo, and award banquet.
The Conference Committee is chaired by the President-elect.
Time commitment: Approximately 2 hours per month, predominantly from September through January.
Communications Committee
The Communications Committee promotes AKSNA’s mission and vision by promoting Child Nutrition publicly and among the membership.
The committee publishes Mush On, the member newsletter and distributes press releases, web site, and social media updates.
The Communications Committee Chair is appointed by the President and attends the annual State Conference.
Time commitment: Approximately 2-4 hours per month
Nutrition Standards & Education Committee
The Nutrition Standards & Education Committee supports AKSNA’s mission to provide resources and education on nutrition specific to school meal programs.
The Committee Chair is appointed by the President and attends the annual State Conference..
Time commitment: Approximately 2 hours per month
High School Graduation Award Committee
The HS Graduation Award Committee promotes AKSNA’s mission and vision by supporting member services and promoting AKSNA through good will.
The committee sets criteria for, advertises, collects applications, and selects recipients for the annual HS Graduation Award.
The HS Graduation Award Committee Chair is appointed by the President
Time commitment: Meets as needed, usually late fall or winter to review criteria and advertising; then two or three times throughout the spring to collect applications and select a recipient.
Ad-hoc Committees
The Executive Board may establish ad-hoc committees or task forces to fulfill a specific, time-limited purpose.
Other
Member-At-Large
AKSNA holds 1-3 positions for Members-At-Large; these positions have no specific assignments but are encouraged to volunteer for committees, are voting members and count towards the quorum, and may fill in for committee chairs as needed.
